South West Alexander Technique

Jeanette and Philip opened South West Alexander Technique in 2001 when they moved to Warrnambool on Victoria’s South West coast. Before moving to the South West their Alexander Technique bases were in Melbourne and the UK.

Jeanette Hajncl

Jeanette HajnclJeanette first came across the Alexander Technique in 1977 during her music studies. What she learnt then inspired her to take lessons and eventually to train as a teacher of the Technique (graduating in 1992) and then spent considerable time studying with senior teachers and working in the UK.

Jeanette presents Alexander’s teachings in a warm and engaging manner, and has been a popular Alexander Technique tutor at courses in Australia, New Zealand and the UK, including at the Daylesford Singers Festival and Melbourne International Recorder Festival. She also works as a composer, conductor and performer.

Philip Shaw

Philip ShawPhilip was working as a scientist when he was introduced to the Alexander Technique in the 1980s. His interest in the technique and its mechanisms developed from there and resulted in him moving to train in Oxford, where he graduated in 1998.

After graduating Philip continued with scientific work as well as Alexander Technique, and he has worked in the environmental, consulting, brewing, biotechnology and commercial industries in Australia and the UK.
Since moving to Warrnambool Philip has run classes in the Alexander Technique both privately and for CRS and has helped individuals address goals from pain management to improving horse riding skills. He is currently on AUSTAT’s Council, chair of its Training Course Standing Committee and was chair of AUSTAT in 2003.

Philip’s other love is music, and he is active in a number of Warrnambool’s singing groups.
